
Located in Marrakech Medina, adjacent to the Ben Youssef Mosque and the Marrakech Museum, Almoravid Koubba, is an immersion into Marrakech history and culture.
Built in 1117 the structure was excavated in 1952 after being re-discovered in 1948, where it was buried beneath an outbuilding of the Ben Youssef Mosque.
The structure is an interesting and unusual insight into Marrakech culture.
The building was used for washing rituals, prior to commencing prayer at the Ben Youssef Mosque.
The internal decorations is a rich formation of floral patterns, depicting Pine cones, Acanthus leaves and Palms. Inscriptions of Maghrebi Script can also be seen in the design, and is the oldest known inscription of Maghrebi script in North Africa.
The Decorations are formed with the use of Marble and Cedar wood.

A visit to the Almoravid Koubba can easily be combined with visits to Ben Youssef Mosque and Marrakech Museum.
